ENFORCEMENT OF FOREIGN COUNTRY MONEY JUDGMENTS
In most instances, money judgments obtained outside of the United States may be enforced within the United States based upon the principals of reciprocity and comity. Presently, the United States is not a signatory to any international treaties (such as the Hague Convention on Foreign Judgments in Civil and Commercial Matters) concerning the enforcement of foreign country money judgments. However, many of the individual states within the United States have adopted and ratified the Uniform Foreign Money Judgment Recognition Act (UFMJRA) which provides for a streamlined procedure for the recognition and enforcement of foreign country money judgments. In Florida, the law governing the enforcement of foreign state judgments is called the "Uniform Out-of-Country Foreign Money-Judgment Recognition Act."
